Profiling When Returning Home to the USA From Canada?
Question by Hey Steve: Profiling when returning home to the USA from Canada?
I am a young adult male, 30 years old. At the beginning of this year, my employer relocated me to a suburb of metropolitan Detroit, MI. When I applied for a Michigan Driver’s License, I got an Enhanced Lisence, with the thought it would be nice to ocassionally travel to Canada on some weekends. I received my license in March and I used it the first week I got it to cross the border into Windsor, ON. It was no hassle crossing the border into Canada on a Saturday afternoon, but on my way home Sunday morning, I noticed it was quite a hassle to cross the border and get back home. Is it because I am a young adult male who is single and traveling alone that makes the crossing guards question me? I have no criminal record. I’ve never committed a crime in my life. I knew the guards would ask questions, but I didn’t think they would profile me the way they did. I felt uncomfortable about telling them everything because I visited a strip club. Visiting a strip club is the only questionable thing I did. I am not one who would want to admit to visitng a strip club to a complete stranger, plus if I did admit it right away, it might have made them ask more questions I would feel uncomfortable about answering. Long story short, they did let me go once they had a dog sniff through my car to determine I did not possess any illegal drugs. My question is, will I get the same kind of treatment if I cross the border again? Do they have it on record what happened the previous time I crossed? I want to know because if it really is that much of a hassle, I may never cross ever again.

Visiting a strip club is not illegal, why would you be nervous about that?
