Question by : can you still get a medical marijuana card in michigan with a history of drug abuse?
my son is 20 years old and has hypothyroidism that has greatly affected his stomach to the point he doesn’t eat properly and we have been hoping to get a medical marijuana card because we’ve tried every other treatment, BUT we’re worried that his history of drug abuse will be an issue. it’s been years since he abused drugs and in my opinion it was because hypothyroidism caused him to become depressed and anxious and most likely in return he abused drugs to escape this. now, the hormone regiment he’s on has caused his depression to be nearly non-existent and i know for a fact (because we drug tested him) that he hasn’t abused drugs for years and he’s been quite happy ever since he was diagnosed and started the hormone treatment. before we can get an appointment or even talk to the doctor we must send proof that he has stomach problems and the medical records we are sending the doctor to review will mention his history of drug abuse and the fact that he used suboxone to help. will this cause the dr to veto the chance of getting an appointment and/or a medical marijuana card? i’m willing to vouch for my son because his stomach condition is debilitating and i want to see him try everything we possibly can to get him better.

That’s not a condition that would allow him to get card card, he has to have one of the defined conditions. Drug history doesn’t matter, if you have one of the listed conditions and can get a doctor to agree, dr’s have no clue about your background when making a recommendation.
